About the managers

The Camp is owned by the Leach family. Jack Leach, who was superintendent of the Town of Webb Schools in nearby Old Forge purchased the camp in 1976. Today it is run by his sons, John and Dave, both educators with Master’s Degrees in education who were counselors at the camp before the family purchased Woodcraft.

The Camp is a part of both John and Dave’s lives. They live in homes on the camp property all year, ski its wooded trails in the winter and watch over the grounds when campers are away. They raised their children as part of the Woodcraft family.  John teaches the Third Grade in the Webb School system, Dave is the Athletic Director for students from grades 7 to 12. Nephew Tim Leach, a social studies and English teacher, also lives year round at AWC.

The family history and commitment to the camp is an important part of the Camp’s sense of place. This is a family’s place, and a family of educators. When you come to Adirondack Woodcraft Camps you’re welcomed into that family.
